SALISBURY, MD - The BlueClaws swept a double-header from Delmarva on Sunday, winning the first game 3-2 and scoring six runs in the seventh inning of game two for a 7-2 victory.
Lakewood (28-21) has won three of four from Delmarva (29-20). The BlueClaws are seven games over .500 for the first time this year and winners of six of their last eight and 13 of their last 19 games.
Game One
In the opener, Damon Jones (3-1) gave up two runs, one earned in six innings and Addison Russ earned his 10th save as the BlueClaws topped Delmarva 3-2.
The teams exchanged home runs early on, with Rodolfo Duran (third of the year) going deep for the BlueClaws in the third and Max Hogan (first) taking Damon Jones deep in the fourth.
The BlueClaws took the lead in the sixth inning on a wild pitch that scored Nick Maton for a 2-1 advantage. A SAC fly from Daniel Brito put the BlueClaws up 3-1.
Shorebirds starter DL Hall (0-3) gave up three runs over 5.2 innings of work, his longest start of the season.
Russ, meanwhile, took the league lead with his 10th save of the year, stranding the tying run on second base when he got Zach Jarrett to ground out to short to end the game.
Game Two
Lakewood used a six-run seventh for a 7-2 win in the nightcap, the second win of the season for the BlueClaws in which they trailed entering their last at bat.
Jhailyn Ortiz started the seventh with his second home run of the season to tie the game. After a Quincy Nieporte double, Colby Fitch doubled in pinch-runner Kevin Markham with the go-ahead run to put Lakewood up 3-2. The BlueClaws added runs on RBI singles from Josh Stephen and Jake Scheiner to take a 5-2 lead.
Daniel Brito then reached on an error, allowing two more to score, and put the BlueClaws up 7-2.
All six runs, four earned, were charged to Reed Hayes (0-3), who took the loss. Julian Garcia (2-1) earned the win in relief. Garcia, with the BlueClaws down a run, got out of a two-one/none-out jam in the bottom of the sixth.
The teams exchanged early unearned runs. Delmarva got a run in the first on an RBI single from Mason McCoy while the BlueClaws tied the game in the second on a SAC fly from Dalton Guthrie.
Delmarva took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Max Hogan.
Lakewood starter Connor Brogdon gave up two runs, one earned, in four innings of work.
Scheiner, Ortiz, and Fitch had two hits for the BlueClaws.
The BlueClaws swept their second straight double-header, after taking one from Hagerstown on Thursday at FirstEnergy Park. Lakewood is now 6-2 since losing a double-header last Sunday.
The teams finish their series on Monday at 2:05 pm. LHP David Parkinson (4-1) starts for the BlueClaws opposite LHP Zac Lowther (2-1).
