
Legends Sweep Tourists in Doubleheader

MCCORMICK FIELD (Asheville, NC) - The Lexington Legends swept the Asheville Tourists in a doubleheader on Sunday, May 27. They won 5-4 in game one and 5-3 in game two. The Legends' record now improves to 26-22 while the Tourists' drop to 19-29.
The Legends plated their first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Travis Jones led off the ballgame with a single to center field then swiped second base. MJ Melendez then grounded out to the first baseman, Chad Spanberger, and Jones advanced to third. Nick Pratto lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield, and the Legends led 1-0.
The Tourists answered in the bottom of the second inning. Taylor Snyder singled to centerfield then made it to third on a double by Robbie Perkins. With runners at second and third, Brett Stephens popped a sacrifice fly to centerfield, and the Tourists tied the game 1-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, Asheville reached on a one-out double by Spanberger. Ramon Marcelino then doubled him home and the Tourists led, 2-1. Snyder joined Marcelino on the base path after drawing a walk. Matt McLaughlin put down a sacrifice bunt, allowing Marcelino to score and Snyder to advance to third. After the third inning, the Tourists led 3-1.
The Legends took the lead again in the top of the fourth. Pratto lined a one-out double down the right field line then scored on an RBI single by Dennicher Carrasco, pulling the Legends within one run of the Tourists. With Carrasco at first, Seuly Matias blasted a two-run homer to centerfield, and the Legends led 4-3.
In the top of the fifth inning, Jones sent a double to left field then scored on an RBI single by MJ Melendez, extending the Legends' lead to 5-3.
The Tourists plated their final run of the first game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sean Bouchard drew the leadoff walk then scored on an RBI double by Snyder. Lexington was able to keep Asheville at bay and took game one, 5-4.
Nolan Watson earned the win for the Legends tossing 5.0 innings allowing three runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out five.
In game two, the Legends were sure to get on the board in the first inning again. Jones reached on a leadoff single then advanced to second on a groundout by Pratto. Carrasco then homered to left field and the Legends led 2-0.
The Tourists plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the inning. Bret Bowell singled to left field then scored on an RBI double by Marcelino, and the Legends led 2-1.
In the top of the second, Matt Morales drew a walk then advanced to second on a single by Cal Jones. Travis Jones then loaded the bases with a walk of his own. Melendez then grounded out to Asheville's second baseman Broswell, allowing Morales to score. The Legends extended their lead, 3-1.
Lexington struck again in the top of the sixth inning. Morales drew another walk then swiped second base, and Travis Jones reached on another walk. Melendez then doubled both runs home, and the Legends led 5-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, Boswell leadoff with a single then advanced to second on a throwing error by Lexington's Ricky Aracena. Golden then singled Bowell home. With Golden at first, Spanberger hit a fly out to centerfield and Golden advanced to third. Marcelino then grounded out, but on the play Golden scored and the Tourists still trailed, 5-3.
Collin Snider earned the win for the Legends in the second game. He pitched 5.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out four.
The Tourists and Legends meet for the series finale tomorrow, May 28 at 1:05 p.m. in Asheville. RHP Carlos Hernandez (2-2, 2.33 ERA) will be on the mound for the Legends to face LHP Lucas Gilbreath (3-2, 7.47 ERA).
