
Seven Unanswered Sinks Dunks in Erie Win

The SeaWolves (8-4) scored seven unanswered runs to beat Akron (6-7) 7-2 and win their third straight game.
Akron ambushed Erie starter Jackson Jobe with consecutive singles on consecutive singles to begin the first inning. Jobe then balked, allowing Petey Halpin to score the game's first run. Aaron Bracho then singled home Kahlil Watson to make it 2-0 Akron.
Jobe settled in and retired the final 11 batters he faced. He allowed those two runs on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Cleveland Guardians reliever Sam Hentges started on the mound for Akron on a rehab assignment. He worked a scoreless first inning.
Rodney Boone took over for him and kept the Erie offense quiet until the fourth inning. Hao-Yu Lee singled, stole second, and scored on Chris Meyers' single. Akron led 2-1.
Erie tied the game in the sixth when TJ Hopkins belted a solo home run.
In the eighth, Erie went ahead for good. After a leadoff single by Eliezer Aflonzo, Ben Malgei smoked his first home run of the season. The two-run blast against Jack Leftwich gave Erie its first lead of the game. Later in the frame, Jake Holton connected on a two-run single to extend Erie's lead to 6-2.
In the ninth, Malgeri added another run-scoring extra-base hit when his double scored Gage Workman, extending Erie's lead to 7-2. Calvin Coker finished the game with two scoreless innings in relief for Erie.
Angel Reyes (1-0) earned the win in relief. Leftwich (0-2) took the loss.
The series continues at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday as Wilkel Hernandez faces Aaron Davenport.
