
Squirrels Blanked by Senators on Friday

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Richmond Flying Squirrels held the Harrisburg Senators hitless after the second inning but were shut out on Friday night at FNB Field, 4-0.
The Flying Squirrels (5-8) outhit the Senators (6-6), 7-3, but hit into three double plays and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position in their second shutout loss of the year.
The Senators took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. After the first two batters of the inning were retired by Richmond starter Matt Frisbee (Loss, 0-1), a walk and two singles loaded the bases for Israel Pineda, who hit a three-run triple.
Paul Witt led off the bottom of the second with a solo homer to extend the Senators' lead to 4-0. It was the final hit of the night for Harrisburg.
Kiest worked 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out three. Nick Garcia pitched the seventh and eighth without allowing a run. In his start, Frisbee struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings.
Harrisburg starter Cole Henry struck out three over three scoreless innings. Reliever Lucas Knowles (Win, 1-0) allowed three hits over three innings.
The series continues on Saturday night at FNB Field. Right-hander Hayden Birdsong (0-1, 3.38) will be on the mound for the Flying Squirrels opposed by right-hander Brad Lord (0-0, 3.86). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Following this week's road trip, the Flying Squirrels return to The Diamond for a six-game series against the Bowie Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
