Seven Run Fourth Propels Hot Rods to 12-6 Victory

LANSING, MI - The Bowling Green Hot Rods used a massive fourth inning to defeat the Lansing Lugnuts 12-6 this evening at Cooley Law School Stadium. The Hot Rods sent 12 batters to the plate and turned a 1-1 tie into an 8-1 Bowling Green lead.

In the second inning, SS Zach Rutherford scored on an RBI double from 2B Trey Hair, and it was 1-0 Hot Rods.

The Lugnuts tied the game on a sac fly in the bottom of the inning off of Hot Rods starter RHP Mikey York.

Bowling Green blew the game wide open in the fourth, with seven runs scored. It was the second time this season the Hot Rods have put up seven runs in an inning, their second-most scored in a single inning this season. The Hot Rods used five hits, three errors, a walk and a hit batter to storm to an 8-1 lead. The big blows came from 3B Justin Bridgman and DH Devin Davis, who each hit two-run singles.

The hit parade continued in the fifth when RF Jake Stone and 1B Jim Haley each hit two-run homers. For Stone it was his first homer with Bowling Green, while Haley used the hit to extend his career best hitting streak to 15 games.

Lansing scattered five runs throughout the rest of the game, but never threatened.

RHP Alex Valverde (6-7, 4.90) earned the win, and LHP Andrew Gist threw three innings to earn his first save with the Hot Rods this season.

The Hot Rods and Lugnuts will conclude their series tomorrow night at 7:05pm Eastern. RHP Tommy Romero (6-0, 2.63) will get the ball for Bowling Green, while Lansing will counter with LHP Jordan Barrett (2-2, 3.73).
