Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (60-58, 25-24) used a pair of two-run innings to beat the Burlington Bees (44-72, 14-33), 4-2, on Monday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.
In the fourth, the Bees rallied with one out. Back-to-back singles put runners at first and second. Spencer Griffin walked to load the bases. The next hitter, Tim Millard, hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped by Cougar outfielder Yan Sanchez. That made it 1-0 Bees. Cougar starter Lane Ratliff was able to hold the damage to one run, inducing a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play.
In the bottom of the inning, the Cougars struck back. Ryan Grotjohn roped an RBI triple down the right field line to tie the game. The next hitter, Eudy Ramos lined a ball up the middle to score Grotjohn and give the Cougars the lead. In the sixth, Ramos collected another RBI knock. Luis Lara made it 4-1 with an RBI fielder's choice.
The Bees cut the lead in half with an RBI single by Tim Millard in the top of the ninth.
Cougar starter Lane Ratliff (5-1) earned the win with six innings of one-run ball, scattering three hits. The one run was unearned. Tyler Keele tossed two perfect innings of relief. Abraham Almonte (3) earned the save, despite allowing Millard's RBI in the ninth.
Bees' starter Jose Soriano (0-6) lasted just 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits, taking the loss. Nick Jobst surrendered two runs in 2.2 innings in his Bees' debut. Carlos Salazar did not allow a run in his two frames on the mound.
