Seven-Run, Five-Double Fourth Launches Tornadoes Past Federals 11-2

Nick Salotti had three doubles, Chris Colabello had two and the team had seven in an 11-2 win over the New York Federals on Friday night. Kevin Cooper earned his fifth win of the season (5-2) with five effective innings, striking out six, walking one and allowing two runs on six hits. Cooper retired each of the last six batters that he faced, four of them from K's.

The Federals led 2-0 after two and a half innings, thanks to a pair of RBI hits that scored Jacob Fabry. Fabry led off the game with a bloop single and scored on Derrick Pyles' single in the first. Fabry doubled in the third and came home when Eddie Lantigua singled to give the New York squad its final run of the game.

Worcester answered with a run in the bottom of the third, when Mark Minicozzi plated Abraham Nunez on a ground out to second base.

The Tornadoes scored seven runs in the fourth inning off of Kyle Putnam (1-5), who gave up 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits. Ryan Crespi,, Colabello and Minicozzi each had a double off of him in the fourth, while Salotti had two.

Nick Serino, Matt McDonald, Sean Gregory and Rick Asadoorian combined for four shutout innings, with each pitcher throwing a scoreless frame.

Game three of the series is Saturday night at 7:05, as Shawn Gilblair gets the nod for Worcester. The gates open at 6:00pm, and the Box Office at the HIP opens at 3:00. Audio coverage of the contest will start at 6:50 on USTREAM with Tornadoes Pre-Game Live.
