Pittsfield Colonials News Release
PITTSFIELD, MA - Danny Bomback hit a two-run eighth inning homerun as the Pittsfield Colonials rallied for the twice in the ballgame, taking home a 10-8 win over the New Jersey Jackals.
Trailing 8-7 in the eighth, Pittsfield would tie things up as a double from Jerod Edmondson scored pinch-runner Jermel Lomack, deadlocking the score at 8-8. It wouldn't stay tied long as the next batter, Danny Bomback delivered a homerun over the rightfield fence to put the Colonials ahead to stay, 10-8.
The two teams traded big innings early on in the game. The Jackals scored six times in the second inning, the big blow being a Nick Santomauro grand slam for a 6-0 New Jersey lead.
The Colonials roared back in the third as three of the first four batters reached on walks. Angel Molina came up and lined a two-run single back through the middle to score Quentin Davis and Jerod Edmondson to make it 6-2. Johnny Welch stepped in next and laced a double down the leftfield line to score Billy Mottram and cut the lead to three runs. Peter Fatse brought Pittsfield all the way back as he took the first offering from Michael Moore over the rightfield wall for a three-run homer, knotting the game at 6-6.
Not content to stop there, with two outs, Scott Knazek doubled down the rightfield line and came in on a Quentin Davis single for a 7-6 Colonials lead. New Jersey would get a run back in the fourth on an infield single from D'Angelo Jimenez to tie the score at 7-7. A Myron Leslie homerun in the sixth would send the Jackals ahead 8-7.
Things got dicey in the ninth as an infield single and a pair of walks loaded the bases with one out for New Jersey, but Mike Zenko was able to strike out Jordan Newton and Santomauro to end the game.
Zenko (6-1) got the win with two scoreless innings of work. Steve Fox (0-1) took loss for Jackals, absorbing the eighth inning for the New Jersey.
The second of the four game series against the Jackals comes up on Saturday at 7 p.m. as T. J. Wink (3-0, 2.30) will start for Pittsfield against Jon Kibler (0-4, 7.59) for New Jersey. For tickets or information visit pittsfieldcolonials.com or call (413)-236-2961.
