Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (4-11) exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and snapped a four-game losing skid with a 7-2 win in their series finale against the Tennessee Smokies (7-7) on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Montgomery had been scuffling offensively through the first four games of the series, having scored just six runs during the week, and after a Jeffrey Baez solo home run off Biscuits starter Benton Moss (1-1), Micheal Rucker (1-1) cruised through the first four innings for Tennessee keeping the Butter and Blue off the board.

But the offense would finally find the breakthrough the team had been searching so haplessly for all season in the bottom of the fifth. Brandon Lowe began the inning with a walk, and then a Nathan Lukes single off Rucker put runners at the corners for Mac James.

James would groundout to third, but it knocked in Lowe to tie the game at one. The next batter was Mike Brosseau who socked a go-ahead RBI-double to score Lukes to put the Biscuits up for good at 2-1. Thomas Milone then stroked an RBI-triple, Michael Russell an RBI-fielder's choice, and Brett Sullivan a two-run triple before scoring on a throwing error to put a bow on the seven-run inning as the team brought 11 batters to the plate in what was easily their best inning of the season thus far.

Moss did the rest, allowing another home run in the seventh to Eddy Martinez, but finished strong going seven innings, surrendering just the two runs on six hits with a walk and a strikeout to earn his first win of the year, and helped the Biscuits put an end to an eight-game home losing streak in the process.

The Biscuits will now hit the road and open up a five-game series against the Biloxi Shuckers at MGM Park with Genesis Cabrera (0-2) taking on Cody Ponce (1-0) on Saturday night at 6:35 PM.
