Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - A pair of day games, a special "Sandlot' appearance and a doggone good time are just part of the scheduled fun as the Biloxi Shuckers return to MGM Park for a five-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits from April 21 to 25.
Saturday, April 21, 6:35 pm: Autos In The Outfield presented by Coast 102 & Cruisin' WGCM and "Squints' from "The Sandlot' Appearance"â¹
The Shuckers kick off the homestand with our "Autos in the Outfield' pregame car show beginning at 3:30pm. "Best In Show' will be awarded with a trophy presentation during the game, and each registered car will be paraded around the ballpark before first pitch at 6:35pm. "Super Dave' from Coast 102 will also be out at MGM Park, broadcasting live from the auto show before the game. For details and to register your vehicle, call 228-271-3486.
In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the classic movie The Sandlot, Chauncey Leopardi, known for playing "Squints," will make a special appearance at the ballpark for a meet and greet with Shuckers fans beginning when gates open at 5:30pm.
On the field, the Shuckers are scheduled to send RHP Cody Ponce (1-0, 3.48) to the mound. Rated as the 14th-best prospect in the Brewers organization, Ponce has allowed four runs in 10.1 innings and struck out 10 batters. It will be his first start at MGM Park this season. The Biscuits are slated to start LHP Genesis Cabrera (0-2, 2.25), who tossed 5.0 innings against the Shuckers on Opening Day, allowing two runs on three hits. Cabrera is rated as the 22nd-best prospect in the Rays organization.
Sunday, April 22, 2:05 pm: Faith and Family Night and Military Salute Sunday presented by Keesler Federal Credit Union
Come to the ballpark and enjoy an exclusive performance by the Greater St. John A.M.E. Church's Male Chorus in honor of our first Faith & Family Night of the season.
Additionally, it's the second Military Salute Sunday presented by Keesler Federal Credit Union, with discounted tickets for all active and retired military personnel with a valid ID. Shuckers players will also wear special military-themed jerseys. As part of a deal for families, the Shuckers offer family 4-packs every Sunday, which include four reserved tickets and four Schooner's special vouchers, which are redeemable for a hot dog, chips and a drink, for just $60.
Gates open at 1:00 pm and select Shuckers players will be on the concourse for autographs before the game. Bring your glove as the day concludes with postgame catch on the field.
RHP Luis Ortiz (1-1, 1.56) toes the rubber for the Shuckers after striking out a career-high 10 in his last outing against the BayBears. Ortiz has pitched against the Biscuits once already this season, allowing two runs on five hits in 5.0 innings of work on Opening Day. Former Major Leaguer Zach Lee (1-0, 1.62) gets the start for Montgomery.
Monday, April 23, 6:35 pm: Doggone Monday presented by Raising Canes
Bring your dog to the ballpark on the first "Doggone Monday' of the season presented by Raising Canes. Dog owners can purchase a $7 berm ticket and bring their furry friend to the ballgame. Make sure to get to the ballpark early to be a part of the pregame parade of dogs on the field. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
Pooch Passes are also available for the entire season, which ensures a berm ticket to every Monday home game, along with a Shuckers-themed leash and bowl for just $60.
Pitching in just his fourth Double-A game, RHP Zack Brown (0-0, 5.63) is the projected starter for the Shuckers. Brown turned in his best outing of the season when he pitched against the Biscuits on April 6, hurling 5.0 innings and allowing two runs while striking out a season-high seven. Though he didn't factor into the decision, the Shuckers went on to down the Biscuits 7-3. On the other side, 35-year-old RHP J.D. Martin (0-3, 8.25) continues his attempt to convert to a knuckleball pitcher.
Tuesday, April 24, 6:35 pm: Brew Crew Tuesday presented by Miller Lite
Celebrate the Shuckers affiliation with the Milwaukee Brewers on Brew Crew Tuesday presented by Miller Lite. Enjoy a true Wisconsin experience with $4 brats and $3 Miller Lite, plus the Shuckers featured "Brew Crew Snack Attack,' which includes fried green tomatoes, cheese curds, french fries and onion rings. In fitting fashion, RHP Adrian Houser (0-0, 4.15), who has pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers this season, starts for the Shuckers in game four of the five-game series. RHP Eduar Lopez (1-1, 4.85) takes the bump for the Biscuits. Lopez gave up five runs on four hits in 5.0 innings against the Shuckers on April 9; a game Biloxi went on to win 5-3.
