
Mississippi Drops Series Finale to Pensacola, 5-0

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves were defeated by the Pensacola Blue Wahoos by a final score of 5-0 on Friday night. In addition to their Friday night victory, Pensacola also captured a 3-2 series victory.
Enderson Franco (0-1, 6.00), who is traditionally a reliever out of the M-Braves bullpen, made his first start on Friday night. Franco pitched 3.2 innings and allowed six hits, four runs, all earned, issued one walk and struck out four.
Connor Johnstone, who was promoted to Double-A Mississippi from Extended Spring Training late Friday evening and took over for Franco in the fourth inning. For Johnstone, his relief appearance on Friday night against Pensacola was not only his first appearance with the M-Braves but his Double-A debut. In his debut, Johnstone tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief allowing only three hits. Johnstone also struck out two Blue Wahoos batters.
Much like previous nights, Pensacola took an early lead that they would not relinquish after scoring three runs in the top of the second inning. The Blue Wahoos added insurance runs in the fourth inning and the eighth inning, making the score 5-0.
Despite the M-Braves loss, M-Braves second baseman, Alay Lago provided a bright spot for Mississippi in Friday night's contest. Lago went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and lifted his batting average from .275 to .302.
Pensacola starter, Wyatt Strahan (2-1, 3.00) earned the win for Pensacola. Strahan also finished his night at the plate going 2-for-2 with a RBI. Mississippi starter, Enderson Franco (0-1, 6.00) suffered the loss for the M-Braves, his first of the 2018 season.
Mississippi will hit the road and travel to Mobile, AL for a five-game series against the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium, beginning Saturday, April 21 at 7:05 p.m. (CST). RHP Kyle Wright (0-2, 4.15) is listed as the Saturday night starter for Mississippi. RHP Jose Rodriguez (1-0, 1.86) will get the start for Mobile.
