Sauget, Ill - The Lake Erie Crushers used the home run ball to power their way past the Gateway Grizzlies by the final of 15-8 on Sunday evening at GCS Ballpark. The Crushers hit a season-high seven home runs as they captured their second straight victory.

Gordon Gronkowski led the way for Lake Erie as he hit a pair of three-run blasts in the third and fourth innings. The Crushers took a 4-0 lead after Gronkowski's first homer, but would watch Gateway score five times on Brent Lysander in the bottom of the third as the Grizzlies held a short-lived 5-4 lead. Gronkowski's second homer in as many innings, along with a solo shot by Luke Hetherington gave Lake Erie an 8-5 lead. "It felt good to give us the lead early on and help out our pitchers," said Gronkowski afterwards. "And it was big that our guys kept the momentum going throughout the game."

The Crushers hit two more round-trippers in the sixth inning as Arden McWilliams hit his third homer in as many nights and Wayne Bond added a two-run shot. Tim Binkoski hit a two-run dinger to right field in the seventh and Andrew Davis closed out the home run parade with a two-run shot to right in the eighth inning. "I'm pleased with the way we swung the bats tonight," said Crushers Manager John Massarelli. "They kept fighting back and it was big that we kept on scoring. The game is never over in this ballpark."

Lysander survived through five shaky innings to pick up his fourth victory of the season. Adam Bowling suffered the loss for Gateway in relief, allowing four runs on four hits in just one inning.

The Crushers improve to 27-23 on the season and will continue their journey in the Greater St. Louis area on Monday night as they open a three game series with the River City Rascals.
