Asheville Tourists News Release

The Tourists fell for the first time in over a week Saturday night. Rome jumped out to a comfortable lead and Asheville's comeback attempt fell just short. The Tourists trailed 6-1 heading to the bottom of the ninth inning. Four runs later and with the tying run at second, Sam Mende's bid at extending the game was caught at the wall in center by Rome's Tony Mueller.

The Braves received an excellent starting pitching performance from David Filak (1-1, 2.14). The righty went six innings and gave up just one hit. He did allow one run and Asheville was able to work five walks.

Alex Gillingham (1-1, 5.74) lasted 5.1 innings for Asheville and surrendered four earned runs. The Braves tallied two in the second, one in the third, and another in the fifth.

Asheville loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth, but they only plated one. Ryan Casteel's delivered the RBI on a fielder's choice. The Braves received a key two-run double from Cory Brownsten with two outs in the seventh which proved to be the difference.

The Tourists rallied with one out in their last at-bat. Tyler Massey singled, Jared Simon was hit by a pitch, and Casteel singled to load the bases. After an RBI groundout by Rosell Herrera, Delta Cleary Jr. reached on a Logan Robbins error. The miscue allowed two runs to score. Brian Humphries doubled home Cleary Jr. to make it a one-run contest, but Mende's long fly-out left Asheville just short.

The Tourists will look to win the series on Sunday afternoon, while the Braves will try to earn a series split.
