Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Greensboro, N.C. - The Grasshoppers scored three unanswered run following a long rain delay and hung on for a 3-2 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds in game three of the series on Saturday night. The Shorebirds have lost three straight games while the Grasshoppers have won five straight.

After two and half scoreless innings, rain and lightening interrupted play.

Following a two hour and 15-minute rain delay, the teams continued play. Both starters were removed. Shorebirds starter Eduardo Rodriguez faced the minimum in the first and manuevered out of a bases loaded jam in the second. He surrendered just one hit. Greensboro starter Adam Conley, the Marlins second round draft pick in 2011, faced just one over the minimum in three innings. He walked two batters and did not allow a hit.

The Grasshoppers scored two quick runs off new pitcher Devin Jones in the bottom of the third. Ryan Goetz singled and Brent Keys walked. A wild pitch advanced Goetz to third and Ryan Rieger hit a sacrifice fly to center field. After Keys stole third, Josh Adams hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

In the fourth, Ryan McIntyre triple to open the inning. He scored on a wild pitch.

The Shorebirds got on the board in the seventh inning. Mikey Planeta hit a leadoff homer over the left-center field wall.

In the ninth, Connor Narron connected on his first career home run over the right field wall. Planeta, who had three hits, singled to put the tying run on first. Givens flew out to right-center field and Sammie Starr grounded into a double play to end the game.

Jones pitched four innings following the rain delay and allowed six hits and three runs. He struck out four.

Zach Fowler entered in the seventh inning and tossed two scoreless with one strikeout.

The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers will play the series finale on Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm. RHP Miguel Chalas is the scheduled starter.
