Hickory Crawdads News Release
SAVANNAH, GA - The Hickory Crawdads won their fifth straight game, 6-1, against the Savannah Sand Gnats, before 3,282 fans at Historic Grayson Stadium on Saturday evening. With the win, Hickory Manager Bill Richardson ties Tony Beasley as the winningest manager in Crawdads history.
Hickory RHP Luke Jackson (W, 2-0) shut down the Savannah offense, tossing a no-hitter through his first 5.2 innings and finishing with six shutout frames.
The Crawdads (11-5) raced in front in the top of the fourth inning against RHP Tyler Pill (L, 1-1). LF Jeremy Williams led off with a single, and then darted home from first one out later on an RBI double by DH Jorge Alfaro. Alfaro then trotted home, as 3B Drew Robinson crushed a two-run homer over the right field wall for the 3-0 lead.
Hickory added two more in the top of the sixth. Williams again led off with a base hit, and Alfaro knocked him in again, this time with an RBI triple. After Alfaro injured himself on the play, OF Jordan Akins took over as a pinch runner and promptly trotted home on an RBI double by Robinson, stretching the lead to 5-0.
The Sand Gnats (10-7) managed to get on the board in the bottom of the eighth against LHP Chris Hanna. CF Tillman Pugh led off with a solo shot, but Hanna navigated through the rest of the inning with no further damage being done and the 'Dads up, 5-1.
Hickory added one more insurance run in the top of the ninth. With the bases loaded and one out, RF Zach Cone drove a sacrifice fly to cap the Crawdads win at 6-1. RHP Randol Rojas closed the game with a scoreless ninth.
