Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - The Hickory Crawdads clawed their way past the Savannah Sand Gnats 6-1 Saturday night at Historic Grayson Stadium in front of a crowd of 3,282, the Gnats' second-best crowd of the season, trailing only Opening Night. The Crawdads (11-5) have taken the first three games of the four-game series from the Gnats (10-7).

The Crawdads chased Savannah starter Tyler Pill from the game with three runs in the top of the fourth. Hickory LF Jeremy Williams led off with a single to right. DH Jorge Alfaro drove home Williams with a double deep up the right-center field gap to put Hickory ahead 1-0. 3B Drew Robinson followed with a home run to right that gave the 'Dads a 3-0 lead and sent Pill back to the dugout.

Hickory expanded their lead to 5-0 in the sixth inning again on the strength of extra-base hits by Alfaro who tripled, and Robinson, who doubled.

The Savannah offense was quiet against hard-throwing Hickory RHP Luke Jackson who no-hit Savannah through 5.2 innings. Savannah 2B TJ Rivera, who has reached base in 16 consecutive games, doubled with two outs in the sixth for the Gnats' first hit. Rivera added a line drive single in the eighth to increase his season batting average to .387.

The Gnats scored their only run when CF Tillman Pugh led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a home run, his first of 2012, and just his second hit of the year.
