Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
Chris Serritella hit a three-run home run in the third inning to give the Crosscutters a 5-1 lead and Williamsport didn't look back as the Cutters beat Batavia 7-4 Friday night.
It was Serritella's team-leading sixth of the season, but first in over a month. On the day, Serritella went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
Logan Moore added two RBI late in the game to keep Williamsport ahead.
The win is Williamsport's sixth in eight games and improves their August record to 12-10.
Tyler Greene hit out of the two-hole for the first time this season and gave the Cutters the lead in the first on a line-drive double to right-center field. Serritella upped the lead to 2-0 later in the frame, scoring Greene from third on a groundout.
Batavia answered back with an unearned run off of Manaure Martinez in the bottom half of the inning, but it would be the last run allowed by the Cutters starter. Martinez delivered his best start as a Crosscutter, striking out seven in five innings, allowing just three hits.
Serritella's homer upped the Cutter lead to 5-1 in the third inning as he turned on a hanging breaking-ball from Muckdogs starter Tim Cooney and sent it down the line over the fence in right field.
Moore drove in Serritella on a bloop-single to center in the sixth, but Batavia staged a comeback in the bottom half of the inning. Jordan Guth made his first appearance since a July injury and allowed back-to-back home runs to Danny Stienstra and Patrick Wisdom to cut the lead to 6-4.
Guth eventually settled down and got out of the inning, and Steven Inch blanked the Muckdogs in the seventh and eighth innings. Moore added an insurance run in the eighth, plating Larry Greene on a liner to right field. Geoff Broussard entered in the ninth and notched his fifth save.
The Crosscutters improve to 25-39 and to 2-3 on the season against Batavia.
The Cutters play game two in Batavia Saturday at 7:05. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
