Frederick Keys News Release

In the minutes leading up to first pitch it looked like the Keys series finale in Kinston might be spared.

With rainouts all over the east coast and rain in the area it was avoiding Grainger Stadium. That was until the bottom of the first inning when the skies opened suspending play with the Keys leading, 2-0. No date has been determined for the resumption of play.

Frederick came into the game winners of seven-of-its-last-eight games looking for a series sweep. The Keys got off to a great start with a patient approach against Kinston start Joey Mahalic.

Making his Carolina League debut, Mahalic walked four of the first six batters he faced as the Keys plated two runs on just one hit to grab the early advantage.

But as the bottom of the first inning began, the rains came. The delay began with the Indians having runners at the corners and no outs.

The Keys now head home for a seven-game homestand. First up is a four-game series with the first place Lynchburg Hillcats beginning Monday night at Harry Grove Stadium.

It will be Kids Eat Free Monday. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
