Harrisburg Senators News Release
Ten runs came across home plate in the final three innings, including three in the bottom of the eighth, as the Harrisburg Senators won a see-saw battle with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 9-7. The Senators led 6-0 heading into the seventh inning, but trailed 7-6 when the bottom of the eighth began.
Early on, the game looked like it could be a runaway for the Sens (41-46), as Aaron Thompson worked a strong outing, and the offense exploded for five runs in the first three innings. Chris Marrero drove in four of the five, with a three-run home run in the first, and an RBI single in the third inning. Also in the third, Jesus Valdez hit a sacrifice fly into right field to drive in Marvin Lowrance, and make the score 5-0. The Senators tacked on one more run in the fifth inning, when Brad Coon scored on an RBI single by Lowrance with one out. Coon had led off the inning with a double off of reliever Mike MacDonald.
The game remained 6-0 into the seventh inning, but the Flying Squirrels (41-46) did not go quietly. Thompson gave up three consecutive one-out hits to Thomas Neal, Brad Boyer, and Conor Gillaspie, and after Tyler Latorre followed up with a groundout off of Hassan Pena, Richmond had its first three runs of the game. Then, in the eighth, the Flying Squirrels drew two one-out walks, and then cranked out four hits in five at-bats, to score four more runs and take a 7-6 advantage.
But the Sens fought back in the eighth, starting with a one-out single from Michael Martinez. After a walk to Tim Pahuta, Jhonatan Solano doubled into right field to drive home Martinez, and tie the game at seven. Edgardo Baez came up next, and singled in two more runs, to give the Sens that 9-7 lead. Adam Carr pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the win, and earn his second save. Reliever Joe Bisenius, who faced just one batter in the ballgame, got the win to improve to 1-0. Daniel Turpen (4-5) took the loss for Richmond.
With the win, the Senators won the four-game series, three games to one. They now head to Reading for the last series before the Eastern League All-Star Break, and will have LHP Tom Milone (6-4, 3.39) on the mound for Friday night's 7:05 PM start. Right-hander Vance Worley (7-4, 3.76) gets the start for Reading. Fans can hear all the action on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com, beginning at 6:50 PM.
