New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Reading Phillies came to town last Monday hoping to win a couple of games before next week's Eastern League All-Star break; they depart New Britain tonight hotter than the weather. Under Thursday's midday sun, Reading rode a workmanlike 6-inning start from RHP Drew Naylor (8-6) to complete a four-game sweep of the woozy Rock Cats.

After plating an unearned run in the 2nd inning against New Britain starter Deolis Guerra, Reading scored a decisive 4 Runs in the 3rd frame while getting just two balls out of the infield. The scoring occurred around a walk, two hit batsmen, two infield singles, two stolen bases, and a run-scoring sacrifice fly. When the 35-pitch inning was over for Guerra (2-4), the Rock Cats were down 5-0. The big right-hander's day ended an inning later after Reading's Cody Overbeck slammed a 2-run HR over the left-field wall.

The Rock Cats mounted a rally of their own in the 5th when their first three hitters - Mark Dolenc, Yancarlos Ortiz, and Juan Portes - each singled. Things fizzled, however, as Steve Singleton's 1-out sac fly pushed across the only run of the frame.

New Britain's Catcher, Alexander Soto, blasted his first HR on the year - a solo shot - off Naylor in the 6th.

With 5,129 fans looking on, Reading tallied five more times in the 9th to finish the day's scoring - and complete the 4-game sweep.
