
David Cooper Hits Two Homers, Drives in Four as Fisher Cats Top Sea Dogs 8-2

Portland, ME - David Cooper hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning and blasted a three-run shot in the top of the third inning to help propel the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to an 8-2 win over Portland on Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
Rey Gonzalez (1-0), making his second start of the season for the Fisher Cats, picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits in seven innings. Gonzalez walked two and struck out three in earning the win. Danny Farquhar provided two innings of scoreless relief.
The Fisher Cats (52-35) struck first for the fourth consecutive time in the series, plating two runs in the top of the first inning. Darin Mastroianni led off with a walk and Adeiny Hechavarria singled. Travis Snider (4-for-5, RBI), continuing his rehab assignment for the Toronto Blue Jays, singled Mastroianni in to make it 1-0. Eric Thames followed with an RBI groundout, scoring Hechavarria. Snider had four hits for the second time in the three games he has played for the Fisher Cats and is now hitting .571 (8-for-14).
In the Portland (42-44) first inning, Che-Hsuan Lin walked and stole second, moving to third on a single by Nate Spears. Lin scored on Luis Exposito's sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
In the top of the second inning, David Cooper blasted his 13th home run of the season, a solo shot off Sea Dogs starter and losing pitcher Jeremy Kehrt (1-6) to put New Hampshire up 3-1.
Cooper (3-for-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI) came up again in the top of the third inning after Snider (2-for-2) had reached on a single and Thames walked. He belted his another home run into the U.S. Cellular Pavillion in right field to give the Fisher Cats a 6-1 lead.
New Hampshire tacked on two more in the top of the fourth inning. Mastroianni and Snider singled, but Mastroianni was caught trying to steal as Snider moved up. Thames walked and Shawn Bowman doubled both runners home to make it 8-1.
Portland tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 8-2. Matt Sheely led off with a double, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a ground out by Lin.
On Friday night, the Fisher Cats open a four-game series in Binghamton. New Hampshire right-hander Kyle Drabek (8-8, 3.20) will be making his first start since his Fourth of July no-hitter. The Mets counter with southpaw Eric Niesen (4-3, 3.61) in a 7:05pm game. Fisher Cats Pre-Game gets underway at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
