Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg used timely hitting and strong starting pitching to capture a 7-5 win over the Akron RubberDucks in front of 3,819 fans at Metro Bank Park on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The Senators took two of three from Akron and have now won five of their last six series.
The Senators jumped on top early as Michael Taylor singled and later scored on a Wilson Ramos ground out in the first inning. With Akron leading 2-1 in the third, Harrisburg responded with two in the bottom of the fourth as Jeff Kobernus looped a two-out, two-run single into shallow center field. Once again, Akron took a one-run lead in the top of the seventh and in the bottom half the Sens took it right back. Wilson Ramos and Cutter Dykstra (3-for-3) singled ahead of Matt Skole with one out. Skole jumped on the first pitch from Akron's Toru Murata and laced a double off the left field fence to put the Senators back in front, 5-4. Two batters later, Caleb Ramsey lined a single back up the middle to score Skole. In the eighth, Michael Taylor singled, moved to second on a ground out and stole third before being able to score on an Akron wild pitch to once again put the Sens up by two runs.
Aside from a two-run home run by Joe Wendle, the RubberDucks struggled to score against the Senators' A.J. Cole. The tall righty turned in 6.1 innings in which he walked none and struck out six. Cole allowed a one-out single in the seventh before Bryan Harper was summoned. Harper allowed Cole's runner to score before allowing a run of his own, although it was unearned. Harper started the eighth inning by allowing a double and single prior to Tyler Herron coming on. Herron allowed one Harper run to score on a sacrifice fly, but induced a lineout and struck out Jake Lowery to end the eighth inning. In the ninth Herron allowed a hit and walk, but none crossed as he struck out Wendle looking to end the game.
The Senators will travel to Richmond, Virginia to start a three-game series with the Flying Squirrels tomorrow night. Lefty Zach Kroenke is scheduled to start for the Senators, while Richmond sends Ty Blach to the mound for a 6:35 p.m. start. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:20 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
The Senators box office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available via telephone during the same hours as the box office hours. Tickets are also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, online at www.senatorsbaseball.com.
