
Fightins continue to hit in sweep by Rock Cats

The Reading Fightin Phils (33-39) have now lost six-straight games as they lost 5-3 on Sunday to the New Britain Rock Cats (39-32). Adam Loewen received his first loss of the season and Aaron Altherr's 14-game game hitting streak was snapped. The Fightins outhit the Rock Cats in the series 28-24.
New Britain took an early 1-0 lead off Adam Loewen and the Fightin Phils in the bottom of the 1st inning as Eddie Rosario hit a RBI groundout to score Aaron Hicks. Reading tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the 2nd inning as Zach Collier hit a sacrifice fly to score Jake Fox with the bases loaded.
New Britain unleashed for four runs off Loewen in the bottom of the 4th inning to take a 5-1 lead over the Fightin Phils. Brandon Waring hit a RBI single which was assisted on a throwing error by Carlos Alonso who tried to throw out Waring at second base and allowed Reynaldo Rodriguez to score. Tony Thomas and Kyle Knudson followed with RBI singles and Aaron Hicks hit a sacrifice fly.
Peter Lavin hit his second home run of the season with a solo shot off Tyler Duffey in the top of the 5th inning to put the Fightins within three runs, 5-2. Adam Loewen finished through five innings in which he allowed five runs off five hits with five walks and two strikeouts.
Albert Cartwright led off the top of the 8th inning with a double off Duffey and advanced to third base on a fly-out to right field by Peter Lavin. Duffey would leave the game for Adrian Salcedo who threw a wild pitch to allow Cartwright to score and put Reading within two runs, 5-3.
Mike Nesseth threw three scoreless innings in relief giving up one hit and recording two strikeouts.
The Fightin Phils head to Binghamton, New York to take on the B-Mets for a three game series beginning on Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
