Sunday, June 22, 2014 - Game #75 - Home Game #36
Prince George's Stadium - Bowie, MD - 2:05 PM
LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets overcame a pair of deficits and held off the Bowie Baysox in a 7-6 victory on Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium. Trailing by two, the B-Mets scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead for good. Steven Matz went 5.2 innings and struck out four in his Double-A debut. Kevin Plawecki went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Four Binghamton players had multi-hit performances. Ryan Fraser retired all four batters he faced in the win. Cody Satterwhite worked a perfect inning to pick up his third save of the season.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Matt Bowman makes his 13th start of the season and first against Bowie. The Maryland native is coming off of two straight wins, including allowing just three hits in six shutout innings in a 5-1 Binghamton win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels, on Tuesday June 17. It was the fourth time this season Bowman has not allowed a run in a start. The Princeton product was taken by the Mets in the 13th round of the 2012 draft.
BOWIE STARTER: RHP Zach Davies is on the bump for the ninth time this season and his eighth start. He is coming off his first win since April 6 when Bowie topped the Trenton Thunder, 3-2, on Monday June 16. Davies allowed just two hits in six shutout innings to pick up the victory. The Chandler, Arizona native has struck out seven or more in three games this season. He was taken by Baltimore in the 26th round of the 2011 draft out of Mesquite High School in Gilbert, Arizona.
COME SEE HOW GOOD I LOOK: Binghamton picked up it's fifth straight win on Saturday. The team has now won 11 of its last 12 games. During that stretch, the B-Mets are hitting .307 with 27 doubles, 18 home runs, and 84 RBI. On the other side, the pitching is allowing less than three runs-per-game and has 64 strikeouts.
THEY FOUGHT THE LAW: B-Mets INF/OF Dustin Lawley went 2-for-5 in Saturday's win to extend his hitting streak to six games. He is 12-for-24 during the stretch with three doubles, two home runs, three RBI and six runs scored. He has tallied two hits in each game during the streak.
WORKING FOR THE WEEKEND: With Saturday's win, the B-Mets improved to 17-9 in weekend games. The team is just 26-22 the rest of the week. That includes a combined 8-11 mark on Monday and Tuesdays.
MATTY BOWS: Matt Bowman is third in the league with 8.91 strikeouts per nine innings. He's tallied double digit K's three times in 2014, including a team-leading 12 twice.
FITTING RIGHT IN: B-Mets newcomer Dilson Herrera is 7-for-12 with Binghamton since coming up from St. Lucie (High-A) last Thursday. He's scored a run in each of the three contests and drove in two runs on Friday. Herrera was a Florida State League All-Star in the first half of the season. He hit .307 with 16 doubles in 67 games.
BRING OUT THE BROOMS With a win Sunday, Binghamton will complete it's second straight series sweep and fourth of the season. The B-Mets have swept Erie, New Hampshire, New Britain and Richmond each once in 2014. Even more, the squad is 15-6 in series finales on the year.
A RARE OPPORTUNITY: Cody Satterwhite picked up his third save of the season, on Tuesday and his first since May 25. It was just the third save for Binghamton in four chances since that game. The B-Mets lost their closer, Chasen Bradford, to Las Vegas (AAA) on June 9.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Binghamton heads back north to take on the Reading Fightin' Phils for a brief, three-game homestand Monday. First pitch at NYSEG Stadium is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
