Harrisburg Senators News Release
Danny Espinosa homered and drove in four, as the Harrisburg Senators scored eight runs in the middle three innings to take control, and ultimately defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 10-5. The win, seen by 3468 at Metro Bank Park, gave the Senators a .500 record once again on the season, at 53-53.
Andrew Kown (6-4) threw seven strong innings for the Sens, and picked up the win. He allowed just three hits, and two runs, while striking out seven and walking two. Kyle Weiland did not allow a run in his first three innings, but then gave up eight (seven earned) in his next two and a third, and was removed with one out in the sixth. He took the loss, to drop to 5-6.
The Sea Dogs (52-53) took a first-inning lead in the game, when Luis Exposito hit a two-run home run over the left-field fence to drive in Ray Chang and make it 2-0. The Sens got on the board in the fourth, when Marvin Lowrance's two-run homer-his tenth-tied the score. Josh Johnson scored on the Lowrance home run.
The biggest inning in the game was the fifth, and it started with a walk to Adam Fox. Edgardo Baez then reached on an error by Portland third baseman Ryan Khoury, and the Sens had two men on with no outs. Two batters later, Danny Espinosa hit a 1-2 pitch over the right-field fence, and the Senators had at 5-2 lead. It was the fifteenth home run of the year for Espinosa, who leads the Sens in homers.
Three more runs came across in the sixth, thanks to a one-out double by Adam Fox and a two-out single by Espinosa. Fox drove in Chris Marrero, who had singled to lead off the inning, and Tim Pahuta with his extra-base hit. He later scored on the hit by Espinosa. Then, after Exposito had hit his second home run of the game in the top of the eighth inning to make it 8-5, the Sens scored two more in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead to five. Fox doubled to lead off the inning, stole third, and then scored on a wild pitch. Later, Marrero drove in Espinosa with an RBI single to make it 10-5. The Sea Dogs also made three errors in that inning, bringing their total to four on the game.
The Sens will look to go back above .500 with a win on Friday night at Metro Bank Park, as they take on the Sea Dogs in game two of the series. Left-hander Tom Milone (7-5, 3.08) goes for the Senators, against RHP Jeremy Kehrt (2-8, 5.37) of Portland. Radio coverage of the contest begins at 6:45 PM, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
