New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The international sensation known as The Jonas Brothers - Nick, Joe, and Kevin - clearly love music, performing for their fansand softball! And at High Noon on Friday, August 13th, they'll be engaging in two of those "favorite things" when they take the field at New Britain Stadium for a free-of-charge softball game against a team comprised of well-known ESPN personalities!
With the Rock Cats on the road that day in Akron, OH - an ESPN softball team calling itself "G.O.A.T.S" (i.e., Greatest Of All Time) looking for an opponent - and The Jonas Brothers searching for a fun workout prior to their 8:00 PM show that night in Hartford - all the pieces came together to stage this unique event. While there will be no charge to attend this special August 13th happening, donations will be accepted at the Stadium to benefit the Connecticut Children's Medical Center's A Brighter Hope campaign.
The Jonas Brothers, ESPN, and the Rock Cats each have a limited number of tickets available for distribution to fans seeking to attend. All tickets are free - and those available from the Rock Cats can be secured in groups up to 6 - by visiting the Box Office at New Britain Stadium between 10 AM and 4 PM, starting on Thursday (July 29). The limited tickets will be offered to fans on a first come-first served basis. Those wishing to reserve seats by telephone may attempt to do so by calling the Rock Cats Ticket Office at (860) 224-8383.
August 13th will be another busy day for The Jonas Brothers. After appearing in Virginia the night before, they'll be featured that Friday morning on ABC's Good Morning America and then - after the Softball Game at New Britain Stadium - they'll perform their enormously popular stylings at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford.
Nick, Joe, and Kevin have assembled a team of their band mates and roadies dubbed the Road Dogs; ESPN's "G.O.A.T.S" will counter with a talent-laden line-up that will feature, among others, the network's fantasy guru - Matthew Berry (aka The Talented Mr. Roto), Mike Greenberg of Mike and Mike in the Morning and SportsCenter, SportsNation's Michelle Beadle, NFL analyst and former All-Pro defensive end, Marcellus Wiley, and Baseball Tonight analyst and former MLB player, Eduardo Perez. NFL Live host Trey Wingo will provide play-by-play and additional commentary at the game.
Bill Dowling, President & CEO of the Rock Cats, expressed his pleasure that the Club was able to pull these two popular entities together for an event on their diamond. "We are always looking to bring in uplifting groups and events that will provide enjoyment to our fans. This is another of those - and certainly a great thing for the City of New Britain". Speaking for the City, Parks and Recreation Director Bill DiMaio said "It is fabulous that the City of New Britain can host such an exciting and upscale event at Willow Brook Park. This regional sports facility can accommodate thousands to enjoy yet another positive leisure experience".
While the J-Brothers will be saving their voices for the evening concert, there will be music that day at the Stadium. A free, Pre-Game performance will begin at 9:30 AM provided by two groups - Vermont-based Burnham - and teen-band Fyve. The up-and-coming Burnham features brothers Forrest (lead vocalist), Alex (on guitar) and Andre (playing bass and keyboards), while Fyve features lead singer Danielle while showcasing the harmonies of identical twins Kristen and Katherine, who play guitar and drums. These Pre-Game performances will take place on a stage just outside New Britain Stadium's main gate.
This fun event is sponsored by Comcast. Allstate, the official partner of the "Road Dogs", will be promoting the "X the Text" campaign that day, encouraging Jonas Brothers fans not to text while driving.
Evan Levy, the New Britain Vice President who facilitated the event, said "The Rock Cats are very excited to be hosting this unique community event that features stars from both the entertainment and sports worlds. It should be great fun for everyone involved".
