Harrisburg Senators News Release
Jesus Valdez ripped a single up the middle in the bottom of the tenth inning that scored Josh Johnson from second base, and the Harrisburg Senators snuck past the Trenton Thunder in ten innings on Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park, winning by a final score of 6-5. Â The win gave the Senators (72-61) a 3-1 series victory, and kept them a game and a half in front of Bowie, which defeated New Britain 6-3 on Sunday. Â The paid attendance was 5529 in the Senators final home game of the regular season, bringing their season total to a team record 294,325.
The Senators trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, but Marvin Lowrance hit a deep three-run bomb over the right-field fence, scoring Stephen Lombardozzi and Johnson to tie the game. Â It was Lowrance's second home run in three games, after he hit a solo shot that ultimately proved to be the game-winner for the Senators on Friday night. Â Sunday's homer came after Trenton had scored five unanswered runs to take that 5-2 lead, getting one in the fifth on an Austin Krum single, two in the seventh on a Justin Christian home run, and two in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Corban Joseph and a triple from Edwar Gonzalez.
Chris Marrero doubled in the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the first inning, driving in Stephen Lombardozzi, who had singled to lead off the innning. Â In the third, Lombardozzi recorded another leadoff hit, this one his second home run of the season, to give the Senators a 2-0 lead. Â He and Valdez each finished with two hits on the day. Â Lowrance, Marrreo, and Johnson each had one hit. Â Cole Kimball (4-1) picked up the win for the Senators, as he pitched a scoreless tenth. Â Josh Schmidt gave up the winning hit to Valdez, as well as the single to Johnson that put him aboard in the tenth.
Having completed their regular season home schedule, the Senators take to the road for their final nine games of the regular season. Â They begin in New Hampshire, with four games from Monday through Thursday. Â The Fisher Cats are 76-56 on the year. Â Monday's game is scheduled for 6:35 PM, with RHP Brad Peacock (2-1, 3.72) making the start for the Sens. Â He is opposed by RHP Randy Boone (4-9, 3.65) of the Fisher Cats. Â Radio coverage of Monday's action begins at 6:20 on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
