Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - An infield single by Brock Bond that scored Tyler La Torre in the top of the ninth inning lifted Richmond to a, 5-4, win over the Altoona Curve Sunday night at Blair County Ballpark. Altoona put the tying run on with no one out in the bottom half of the ninth but failed to get him in.

After reliever Bryan Morris pitched two scoreless innings, Ramon Aguero (2-5) was called in from the bullpen to start the ninth inning. He walked the leadoff man La Torre and gave up a single to Clay Timpner that moved La Torre to third with no one out. He got a big strikeout of pinch hitter Ryan Lormand for the first out but Bond's slowly hit ball to Matt Hague enabled La Torre to score the eventual game-winning run.

In the bottom half of the inning, pinch hitter Jim Negrych led off the frame with a single to put the tying run on. Jose de los Santos put down another sacrifice bunt to move him up 90 feet to second. Andrew Lambo was announced as the pinch hitter before Richmond manager Andy Skeels brought in left-hander David Quinowski to face the left-handed hitter. Lambo flew out and then after another pitching change by Richmond, Chase d'Arnaud grounded out to end the game.

The Curve led the game for half an inning after scoring a run in the bottom of the first off starter Clayton Tanner. Richmond answered right back in the second with two runs, one of them a solo home run off the bat of Thomas Neal, to take the lead. They added two more in the third off starter Jared Hughes, who wouldn't allow a run the rest of the way.

Altoona tied it in the fifth off Tanner when Hughes walked to start the inning and d'Arnaud hit a home run out to left, his fifth of the season, to pull the Curve within one. Josh Harrison immediately followed d'Arnaud's home run with a homer of his own and the game was tied at four. It is the third time this year that Curve players have hit back-to-back home runs.

The playoff scenarios remain the same for Altoona heading into the series with Bowie. If they defeat Bowie on Monday night, they'll clinch a playoff berth and potentially a division title depending on what happens with Harrisburg. Altoona owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over Harrisburg in the event that both teams finish with identical records at the end of the season. The Senators begin a series up in Manchester, N.H. against the Fisher Cats Monday night at 6:35 p.m.

Altoona (79-55) sends LHP Justin Wilson (10-7, 3.12) to the hill in the series opener with Bowie (71-63). The Baysox will counter with RHP Eddie Gamboa (6-5, 3.98) in the 7:05 p.m. lid lifter.

Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on flagship ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. Curve playoff tickets are available now by calling 877.99.CURVE, visiting www.AltoonaCurve.com or by stopping into the box offices at BCB during normal business hours.
