Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators carried a one-run lead into the seventh, but were not able to hold it in a 6-4 loss to the Akron RubberDucks on Thursday night at Canal Park in Akron.
Bryce Harper went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored in his first game with the Senators as part of his rehab assignment from the Washington Nationals. Kevin Keyes singled in Cutter Dykstra (2-for-3, two runs) in the first inning to make it 1-0, Senators. Dykstra scored again in the third when Matt Skole drove him in with a single through the left side. Keyes followed with his 2nd RBI single of the night on a sacrifice fly to score Harper and put the Sens in front, 3-0. With the game tied at three in the sixth, Drew Vettleson struck out but the third strike bounced away and Vettleson was able to advance to second base on the odd play. He was driven in by a Brian Jeroloman single into right-centerfield to push the Senators in front, 4-3. Michael Taylor was 3-for-5 on the night for Harrisburg.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Akron loaded the bases with nobody out against Senators reliever Derek Self. The RubberDucks' Tony Wolters singled in two to retake the lead for Akron, 5-4. Self was able to escape the inning without further damage, but the RubberDucks added another in the eighth off of Harrisburg's Scott McGregor. Paolo Espino pitched the initial 5.1 innings for Harrisburg, striking out five batters while allowing three runs on three hits.
