New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Kevin Nolan's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted the Fisher Cats past the New Britain Rock Cats to start a five-game series on Thursday night. Nolan extended his hit streak to six games as the Fisher Cats (33-44) won back-to-back games against Eastern Division teams for the first time since May 5-6.
Nolan's big hit came after a two-out walk started a rally in the sixth for New Hampshire. Facing starting pitcher Jason Wheeler, K.C. Hobson drew the free pass. He was followed by a bunt single from Derrick Chung to put runners at first and second. Nolan then lifted what appeared to be a routine fly to right field, but New Britain's Reynaldo Rodriguez lost the ball in the lights and it fell behind him to plate two runs for a 2-0 New Hampshire lead.
Five pitches made that lead stand. Scott Copeland started the game and recorded nine groundball outs over his three innings of work. Austin Bibens-Dirkx (W; 3-3) took over the next three innings, retiring the final seven men he faced.
After Dustin Antolin worked a scoreless seventh, Aaron Hicks took Scott Gracey deep to cut the Fisher Cats lead to 2-1 in the eighth. New Britain had one more chance in the ninth but a line out to right field stranded two runners to end the game against Gregory Infante (S, 8).
Nolan finished 2-for-3 on the night. Chung had a pair of hits but Andy Burns' 14-game on-base streak came to an end.
The series continues with a doubleheader consisting of two-seven inning games on Friday night at 6:05 p.m. One ticket is good for both games, and the first 2,500 fans will receive a player poster courtesy of Spectrum Marketing. Tickets are available by visiting the stadium box office, calling (603) 641-2005, or visiting www.nhfishercats.com.
Friday's pitching match-ups feature Radhames Liz and Casey Lawrence for the Fisher Cats. The Rock Cats will start Tyler Duffey in game one followed by Mark Hamburger in game two. Radio coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with Tom Gauthier and Charlie Sherman on WGIR 610 AM and www.nhfishercats.com.
