Port Alberni, B.C. -- The semi-finals have been set at the World Under 17 Challenge on Vancouver Island.

Mark Stone and Team West will face off against Division winner Ontario while the United States will take on Team Pacific on Saturday.

Team West completed its preliminary round Friday night with a 7-0 loss to the American Junior Selects. The U.S. got goals from seven different players en route to the win. Team West finished the preliminary round with a 3-1-0 record.

The winners of today's semi-finals will meet in Sunday night's Championship final while the losers will face off for the bronze medal.

Led by the likes of Brayden Schenn, Scott Glennie and Brodie Melnychuk, Team West came home with a bronze medal from last year's tournament in London, Ontario.

Meanwhile at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Ottawa, Team Canada will meet the Russians in one of two semi-finals on Saturday. The Russians advanced with a 5-1 victory over the Czech Republic on Friday night.

The other semi-final will feature unbeaten Sweden up against the surprising Slovakians. Slovakia earned a berth into the semi-finals with a stunning 5-3 upset of the heavily favored Americans on Friday.

Saturday's semi-final winners will meet in the gold medal game Monday night at Scotiabank Place.
