Blades Lose Shootout 5-4 to Raiders

A very entertaining game ended in a 5-4 shootout win for the visiting Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday night.

4,171 fans braved the cold weather and were treated to a great hockey game. Blades captain, Derek Hulak, opened the scoring with his 15th goal of the year just 2:03 into the game. Rookie Burke Gallimore scored his team leading 17th of the season to close out the scoring in the first period. The Blades outshot the Raiders 20-6 in the period.

The Raiders, winners of 4 straight, bounced back in the second period with a much better effort. James Dobrowolski and Blaine Tendler each scored to send the game into the third period all squared up at 2-2.

Gaelan Patterson and Walker Wintoneak each scored their 12th goals of the season only 21 seconds apart to give the Blades a 2 goal lead once again. The Raiders were resilient as Dobrowolski and Matt Robertson tied the game up at 4-4. Hulak took a puck to the mouth which caused him to miss much of the third period.

The overtime was controlled by the Blades, who had several scoring chances but could not get one past Raiders goalie, Steven Stanford.

Braden Holtby and Stanford went back and forth in the shootout making save after save before the Raiders captain, Dustin Cameron, was finally able to beat Holtby on a shot blocker side.

The shootout loss was the Blades first this season as they had won their previous two shootouts.

The Blades return to action January 9th in Brandon and return home the following night as they take on the Moose Jaw Warriors, game time 7PM.
