
Sell-out sees shutout

The second sell-out crowd of the year at SBC Bricktown Ballpark saw the RedHawks fall to Iowa 3-0 Thursday.
The RedHawks were held to six hits, all singles, and advanced only one baserunner past first base.
Iowa starting pitcher John Koronka pitched eight innings and gave up five hits, walking none and striking out seven. He had two double plays turned behind him and retired 11 of the last 12 batters he faced.
Cubs closer Jermaine Van Buren allowed the only RedHawk past first base in the ninth inning. Jason Conti hit a two-out single to centerfield and advanced to second on a ground out by Chad Allen.
Conti and Manny Alexander had two hits each for the RedHawks.
A capacity crowd of 13,066 saw the Cubs score runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings off RedHawk starter Derek Lee.
Lee pitched six innings and gave up three runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts. His record fell to 0-1 while Koronka improved his to 6-6.
The RedHawks and Cubs meet again at 7:05 p.m. Friday at SBC Bricktown Ballpark. As always, Friday means Faith Night and Fireworks presented by McDonald's at the ballpark.
A statue of Oklahoma baseball great Warren Spahn will be unveiled at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the entrance in Deep Right. The first 2,500 fans to Saturday's game receive replicas of the statue. There will be fireworks after the game.
The RedHawks' annual holiday fireworks show will be after Sunday's game.
