Round Rock Express News Release
(Round Rock, TX) - After Express starter Taylor Buchholz left the game after only one inning, two things happened on Thursday night at The Dell Diamond. The E-Train bullpen and the offense went to work simultaneously and the results for Express fans were superb.
SS Danny Klassen homered with two outs in the bottom of the first inning to give Round Rock a 1-0 lead. In the second inning off New Orleans starter Chad Durbin, Barry Wesson ripped an RBI single to left that scored Brooks Conrad who had doubled with one out in the second.
The Zephyrs tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning, when reliever Roberto Giron gave up a couple of runs on three hits.
But, in the bottom of the fourth inning, LF Carlos Rivera hit a towering drive into the right center field bullpen, scoring Mike Coolbaugh to make it 4-2 Express.
And then the bullpen went to work holding New Orleans in check. Lefty Denny McDaniel pitched a shutout inning, Brooks Kieschnick got the win, throwing two solid, shutout innings. Round Rock fans got their first look at right-handers Will Cunnane and T.J.Mathews who also rang up shutout innings.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Express sealed the Zephyrs fate, putting up nine runs on seven hits, the largest one inning output for the E-Train this season. Mike Coolbaugh picked up two doubles and three RBI in that inning, Danny Klassen got a two-run single and Carlos Rivera and Brooks Conrad each put up RBI singles.
When the smoke cleared, Round Rock owned the lead, and finished the game with a 13-2 final.
Game two takes place at 7:05 PM on Bud Light Fireworks Friday at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Fernando Nieve makes his third start for the E-Train. He'll be opposed by New Orleans right-hander Brian Powell.
