See-Saw Stops with Springfield on Top 9-6

Springfield, MO - The Springfield Cardinals outlasted the Arkansas Travelers and won 9-6 on Tuesday night at Hammons Field.

With the game tied 5-5 in the sixth, Cardinals 1B Luke Voit lined a three-run home run to left to put the Cardinals up for good.

The Travs cut the deficit to 8-6 in the eighth, and put runners on first and second with nobody out, but did not score another run.

Arkansas jumped out to an immediate 2-0 lead after 2B Tim Arakawa reached on an error and 1B Alex Yarbrough launched a two-run, opposite-field home run to left. The home run was Yarbrough's first away from Dickey-Stephens Park this season.

Springfield countered with one in the first and three in the fourth to go up 4-2.

Arkansas fought right back with three in the fifth thanks to a Yarbrough sacrifice fly and 3B Andrew Daniel two-run home run, his second longball in as many nights.

Arkansas starter RHP Victor Alacantara struggled again, allowing five runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts over five innings.

LHP Jose Molina (L, 0-1) allowed the three-run home run to Voit in the sixth and RHP Josh Roenicke worked the seventh and eighth. In the eighth, the 33-year-old Roenicke hit two batters and issued two walks, including one with the bases loaded.

Springfield starting pitcher RHP Daniel Poncedeleon (W, 6-5) worked into the eighth inning. He allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts over seven-plus frames.

RHP Ronnie Shaban (S, 7) notched the save with two scoreless innings of relief to close the door.

Yarbrough finished 2-for-3 with the home run and three RBIs.

LF Caleb Adams went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for Arkansas.

Voit produced four RBIs for Springfield.

With the loss, the Travs fell to 42-52 on the season and 10-14 in the second half. The two teams will conclude the five games in four days series on Wednesday night at Hammons Field.
