See Saw Homerun Battle Ends with Loss

NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Defender's longest winning streak came to an end on Independence Day as the Rock Cats launched three homers in a 5-3 loss.

New Britain struck the score board first as Drew Butera singled home David Winfree who led off the frame with a double to make it 1-0, Cats.

Pablo Sandoval tied the game up with one swing of the stick as he sent a long bomb over the right-center field fence. Eddy Martinez-Esteve singled to restart the rally in the fourth, and Simon Klink lashed a double down the right field line to give Connecticut a 2-1 advantage.

Brock Peterson started off the home half of the fourth with a solo shot of his own as the game knotted at 2-2.

The Rock Cats All-Star center fielder in Dustin Martin would deliver a run scoring double in the sixth as New Britain claimed a 3-2 lead.

The Defs would finally find an answer in the top of the eighth when Eddy Martinez-Esteve crushed his fourth home run of the season, a one-run long ball to tie things up, 3-3.

Jason Waddell would work into his second inning of relief in the bottom of eight and things turned ugly fast. Luke Hughes homered to start off the frame and two batters later, Peterson launched his second four-bagger of the day to give make it a 5-3 game in favor of New Britain.
