Senators Shuffle Pitching Staff

Harrisburg Senators News Release

Harrisburg, PA - LHP Justin Jones was added to the Harrisburg Senators' pitching staff today from Advanced-A Potomac. LHP Jack Spradlin, just added two weeks ago, was transferred back to Potomac.

Jones, 23, dominated in just over two weeks with Potomac this season, going 3-1 with a 1.48 ERA in four starts. He was originally selected by the Cubs in the 2nd round of the 2002 draft. The Cubs traded Jones to the Twins for INF Doug Mientkiewicz at the trade deadline in 2004. The Nationals plucked Jones from the Twins in the Rule 5 draft in December 2006. He spent 2007 at three levels with the Nationals (Hagerstown, Potomac and Harrisburg), going 2-0 with a 5.19 ERA for the Senators. He sustained a knee injury while playing basketball over the off-season.

Spradlin, 23, went 0-1 with a 7.11 ERA in 6.1 innings for the Senators.

With the moves, the Senators maintain a full complement of 24 active players. A new player means 50 players have suited up for Harrisburg this season. Only eight members of the Senators' Opening Day roster remain. The Senators' average age on the opening day roster was just over 26 and is now slightly over 25.

The Senators begin a four-game series in Altoona tonight at 7:05 PM. They return to Commerce Bank Park on Tuesday, July 8th for a seven-game homestand against the New Britain Rock Cats (Double-A Twins) and the Bowie Baysox (Double-A Orioles). Tickets can be purchased by calling the Senators offices at 231-4444 or online at www.senatorsbaseball.com.
