After being swept by the High Desert Mavericks last time the Oaks were at Maverick Stadium, Visalia swept the Mavericks at Recreation Park. The Oaks lost the first game of this series big by a final score of 15-6, and looked to even up the series in game two to avoid another possible sweep in the desert. The Oaks would send out right-hander Andrew Sonnanstine who was making his third start since being called up from the Southwest Michigan D-Rays vs. righty Billy Buckner.
The Oaks gave starter Andrew Sonnanstine a 2-0 lead on a John Paul Davis sacrifice fly and a Colt Simmons RBI single before the Mavericks could even bat in the first. The Mavericks tied it up in the bottom of the second when they scored two of their own and the score was knotted at 2-2. In the bottom of the fourth the Mavericks pulled ahead taking their first lead of the game when the scored a run to make it 3-2.
In the eighth the Oaks would have a big inning getting the first run on Josh Arhart homerun his fourth of the year. Visalia would add three more before they were through on a double by Joey Gomes and a Kris Dufner RBI single as the Oaks score four runs to take a 6-3 lead. It would not last long as the Mavericks answered with four in the bottom of the seventh to tie it at 6-6. The Mavericks would take the lead in the bottom of the eighth with a run that made it 7-6. That would be the final as the Oaks lose their fifth straight after winning four in a row.
The Oaks have now lost the first two games of this series and look to avoid their second sweep of the year at Mavericks Stadium on Thursday in game three the final game of this three game set. The Oaks will send out left-hander Mike Prochaska vs. right Devon Lowery for the High Desert Mavericks.
