After having Monday off the Oaks continued their 10 game road trip as they traveled to the High Desert to take on the Mavericks for three games. The Oaks were swept last time at Maverick Stadium but just came off a sweep of the Mavericks before they played the Blaze back at Recreation Park. So would there be a sweep the third time around? The Oaks would send out right-hander T.A Fulmer vs. southpaw John Gragg.
The Oaks got out to a quick lead as the received a leadoff triple by Francisco Leandro who was brought home on a Kris Dufner groundout and the Oaks took a 1-0. The Mavericks tied it quickly though in the bottom of the first on the 23rd homerun of the year by 19-year-old Billy Butler. The Mavericks would add solo runs in the next two innings as well and take a 3-1 lead over Visalia. The Mavericks would add three more in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead by five and lead 6-1.
The Mavericks would score four more run in the fifth and take a commanding 10-1 lead over the Oaks. The Oaks then received a boost from Aneudi Cuevas when he hit a two run shot his 13th of the year and the Oaks were down 10-3. Visalia would give one back in the bottom of that inning though in the sixth as the Mavericks got one back and lead 11-3. The Mavericks would add four more in the seventh inning to take a 15-3 lead, scoring runs in all of the first seven innings. The Oaks would get three in the ninth but fall by a final of 15-6 as the lose game one. Also in this game both of Joey Gomes streaks ended, his hitting steak stop at 20 and he failed to reach base for the first time in 43 games.
The Oaks lose game one of the series but go at it again on Wednesday in game two of this three game set. The Oaks will send out right-hander Andrew Sonnanstine vs. right Billy Buckner for the High Desert Mavericks.
