Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Erie SeaWolves edged the Harrisburg Senators 5-3 Wednesday night at UPMC Park. Erie scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a 3-3 tie en route to the win in the rubber match.
The Senators scored the first two runs of the game in the opening frame. With two runners on base on a walk and a single, Daniel Johnson singled to center to put the Senators on the board. The next batter, Raudy Read, hit into a run-scoring double play to make the score 2-0 Senators.
Erie plated their first run against Senators starting pitcher Jaron Long in the second when Josh Lester scored on a passed ball. They tied the game in the third when Lester hit a sacrifice fly to right.
The SeaWolves plated the go-ahead run in the fifth. Cam Gibson led off the frame with a single and stole second. After the next two batters were retired, Will Maddox hit an RBI single as Erie took a 3-2 advantage.
Long received a no-decision after working five and a third innings of three run ball.
Erie remained ahead by a run until the top of the eighth. Alec Keller walked and Austin Davidson doubled to lead off the frame, placing runners at second and third with nobody out. One batter later, Hunter Jones hit a deep sacrifice fly to left center field which tied the game at 3-3.
The SeaWolves came back to take the lead in the eighth. After Ronald Pena walked back-to-back batters to start the frame, Jordan Mills allowed a go-ahead two-run double to Cam Gibson as Erie took a 5-3 lead.
John Schreiber (3-6) retired all four batters he faced, including all three batters in the ninth, to pick up his third win and seal the 5-3 victory.
Pena (1-2) took the loss after allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
