Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Reading, PA) - Monday's off day came at an odd time for the Fightin Phils because they were in the midst of a season-high eight-game hitting streak. Since returning to action on Tuesday, they've been overmatched by the Yard Goats, who won the series with a 7-2 win on Wednesday night. Josh Tols, Luke Leftwich, and Kyle Dohy combined on six scoreless innings, and Deivi Grullon and Malquin Canelo hit home runs in front of 5,217 at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Facing Felix Paulino for the first time this season, the 'Goats got a single from Drew Weeks and a double from Brandon Bednar to open the second. A passed ball made it 1-0, and after Nelson Molina brought in a run with a fielder's choice, Yard Goats starter Rico Garcia made it 3-0 with a single up the middle.

Grullon went deep for the fourth straight game with one out in the second, giving him a team-leading 21 this season. But in the third, the Yard Goats added four more runs to pull away early. Roberto Ramos hit his 11th home run on the first pitch of the inning and after a pair of walks, Scott Burcham's run-scoring single made it 5-1. Garcia's sacrifice bunt brought in the third run of the inning, and Omar Carrizales drove in his fourth run of the series to give the Yard Goats a 7-1 lead.

The Fightin Phils final run came on Malquin Canelo's eighth home run with one out in the fifth, snapping an 0-for-23 slump at the plate. For the rest of the night, the Fightins only baserunner was Austin Listi's two-out single in the sixth. Tols contributed with two innings, while Leftwich worked a season-high three before Dohy struck out the side in the ninth.
