SeaWolves Drop Series Opener in Harrisburg

The SeaWolves dropped the opener of a four-game series against the Harrisburg Senators 8-1 on Monday night at Metro Bank Park.

The Senators struck for five in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Mark Sorensen. Josh Johnson led off with a double and Derrick Norris homered to right-center, his 11th for a 2-0 lead. Bill Rhinehart followed with a solo blast down the line in right making it 3-0 Sens. With two outs, Bryce Harper singled and Archie Gilbert double putting two in scoring position for Stephen King. King doubled home a pair for a 5-0 Harrisburg lead.

In the second, Norris doubled with one out and he came in to score on a Rhinehart home run, his second of the game for a 7-0 Sens edge.

Harrisburg extended its lead to 8-0 in the fourth when Norris hit a line drive home run, his second of the game.

Erie got on the board in the top of the sixth against Harrisburg starter Brad Peacock. Francisco Martinez led off the inning with a triple and he scored on a Rawley Bishop sacrifice fly making it an 8-1 game in favor of the Senators.

The SeaWolves would get no closer, falling 8-1.

Sorensen (7-6) took the loss for Erie allowing eight runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts in four innings of work.

Brad Peacock (10-2) earned the win and became the Eastern League's first 10-game winner, allowing a run on five hits with a two walks and nine strikeouts.

Senators pitchers combined to strike out 15 SeaWolves hitters.

The game was play in front of the largest crowd in Metro Bank Park history of 8,092.

The SeaWolves continue an eight-game road trip on Tuesday night at Metro Bank Park against the Harrisburg Senators.7:00 First Pitch. RHP Jacob Turner (3-2, 3.07 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Erik Arneson (5-1, 1.98 ERA).
