SeaWolves Drop Rain-Shortened Game

The Erie SeaWolves dropped the series finale 4-3 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in a rain-shortened game that was called in the top of the sixth on Sunday at UPMC Park.

Erie opened the scoring in the first. Andrew Navigato greeted Jordan Yamamoto with a single. Navigato swiped second base for his ninth bag of the season. Quincy Nieporte blooped an RBI single to give Erie a 1-0 lead.

Binghamton pulled ahead in the second. Jeremy Vasquez reached on a two-out single off of Adam Wolf. Zach Ashford hit a ground-rule double to advance Vasquez to third. Hayden Senger drove in both runners with a two-run double.

Wyatt Young put the Rumble Ponies up 3-1 in the third with a leadoff homer.

Andrew Navigato cut the deficit 3-2 with a solo homer in the bottom of the third. It was his ninth long ball of the 2022 campaign.

The Rumble Ponies extended their lead back to two runs in the fifth. Cody Bohanek greeted Brendan White with a double in the fifth. Young grounded one to the right side to move Bohanek to third. Brett Baty then cashed in with an RBI single to make it a 4-2 ballgame.

The SeaWolves made it a 4-3 game in the home half of the fifth. Andre Lipcius led off with a double against Brooks Hall. Nieporte delivered his second RBI of the game with a run-scoring two-bagger.

Hall (1-0) earned the win. He allowed one run across two frames.

Wolf (5-3) was tagged with the loss. He went four innings, giving up three runs on five hits, walking none and striking out six.

The SeaWolves will return to action at Canal Park for a three-game set against the Akron RubberDucks on Friday, July 22.
