
Sea Dogs Walk-Off with 12-11 Win over Somerset

Portland, Maine - Kole Cottam delivered a walk-off double in the ninth inning, while Christian Koss had a 3-for-4 day with four RBI, leading the Portland Sea Dogs (13-5, 43-44) to a 12-11 victory and a series split against the Somerset Patriots (9-9, 53-34) on Sunday in front of a sellout crowd at Hadlock Field.
Somerset started the scoring in the top of the first inning against Portland starter Yusniel Padro-Artiles. With two outs, Austin Wells singled to center. Jeisson Rosario then launched a two-run homer to right-center, giving the Patriots a 2-0 lead.
The Sea Dogs responded in the bottom of the first frame, plating five runs against Patriots starter Randy Vasquez. David Hamilton singled and stole second. Eli Marrero singled, putting runners on first and third. Koss cleared the bases with a three-run homer, taking the lead 3-2. Cottam reached base on a fielder's choice and Alex Binelas hit the second homer of the inning, a two-run homer that gave the Sea Dogs a 5-2 lead.
Portland added four more in the bottom of the second. Hamilton walked and stole second. Marrero singled, putting runners on the corners again. Marrero stole second base, allowing Hamilton to steal home, improving the lead to 6-2. Koss singled home a run and Scott had a sacrifice fly, while Binelas hit a second home run, making it a 9-2 game.
The Patriots came back with four runs in the top of the fifth. Cristian Perez collected an RBI groundout, Wells had an RBI base hit, and Rosario had a two-run triple, bringing Somerset within three runs, 9-6.
Portland scored another run in the bottom of the sixth. Koss doubled with two outs, putting himself in scoring position. Scott brought him home on a two-base sacrifice fly, increasing the lead to 10-6. Somerset added two runs in the top of the seventh. Rosario, a former Sea Dog, doubled with one out to complete the cycle. Rodolfo Duran brought home a run on a sacrifice fly, making it a 10-8 game.
Somerset tied the game in the top of the ninth inning. All with two outs, Bastidas singled and Duran doubled. Chad Bell cleared the bases with a three-run blast. It was his 12th home run of the year and gave the Patriots an 11-10 lead.
The Sea Dogs came back strong in the bottom of the ninth. Koss struck out, but a wild pitch allowed him to reach first on the third strike. Scott doubled, putting runners at second and third. Cottam stepped up the plate and walked it off with a double, bringing around Koss and Scott to win 12-11.
Ryan Fernandez (1-0, 5.40 ERA) earned his first win of the year, going 2.0 innings while allowing three runs on four hits and struck out four. Carson Coleman (1-2, 2.55 ERA) tossed 1.0 inning, surrendering two runs on two hits while striking out three in his second loss of the season.
The Sea Dogs enter a four-day break from July 18 to July 21, starting a three-game series in New Hampshire on Friday at 7:05pm.
