Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Fabricio Macias had first three-RBI game in Double-A, while Matt Fraizer and Jared Triolo homered for Altoona as the Curve won their fourth-straight game over Richmond on Sunday afternoon, 8-3, at PNG Field.
The Curve (12-6, 45-42) scored eight times on eight hits in the win, securing their third-straight series victory to open the second half of the season after taking four games from Richmond this week.
Macias brought home the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the first inning. Richmond starter Kai-Wei Teng loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch before Macias made it a 1-0 game.
It was Macias who extended the Curve lead in the third inning. After a Blake Sabol two-out bunt single and an Aaron Shackelford walk, Macias sent a double to the right-center gap to clear the bases. Fraizer then hit his fifth home run of the season in the next at-bat, a two-run shot to make it a 5-1 game.
Triolo finished the game with two RBI. He brought home a run in the bottom of the fourth on a double play ground out. Then in the sixth, he hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot off Randy Rodriguez to round out the Curve offense.
Carmen Mlodzinski allowed two runs on four hits in five innings, striking out four batters to earn the win. Tyler Fitzgerald hit his fourth home run of the week for Richmond in the second inning, a solo shot off Mlodzinski. Shane Matheny later hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to bring home Brandon Martorano.
The Curve then used four bullpen arms, each for a single inning, to secure the win. Austin Roberts struck out one in a perfect sixth and Cristofer Melendez struck out the side in order in the seventh. J.C. Flowers allowed one unearned run in the eighth on a throwing error by Claudio Finol that brought a run across. He struck out one batter in the frame. Bear Bellomy worked a perfect ninth inning with a strikeout.
Andres Alvarez extended his on-base streak to a team-long 17 games in the win. The Curve pitching staff struck out 10 batters in the win.
Altoona enters the all-star break in first place in the Southwest Division at 12-6 in the second half of the season. The team travels to Harrisburg on Friday night for a quick three-game series with the Senators, Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. RHP Luis Ortiz takes the ball for Altoona, with RHP Ronald Herrera on the mound for the Senators with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
