July 17, 2022 - Eastern League (EL)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Despite falling behind early, the Reading Fightin Phils came from behind to claim a 4-3 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays).
Jonathan Guzman pushed the go-ahead run across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Reading a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Kevin Vicuna and Wendell Rijo had three and two hits, respectively.
Luis De Los Santos gave the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the second inning.
The R-Phils tied the game in the fourth. Vicuna hit a double with one out. With two away, Freddy Francisco stepped to plate and notched his first Double-A hit with an RBI double.
In the next frame, the Fightins took the lead. Johan Rojas was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He stole second then advanced to third on a groundout. Jhailyn Ortiz reached on a fielding error with two outs and Rojas scored the go-ahead run. After a pitching change, Ortiz stole second to get into scoring position for Aldrem Corredor. The first baseman singled to right field to push an insurance run across the plate.
New Hampshire got runners to second and first base in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a dropped third strike and an error on a fielder's choice. Two walks forced in a run while another error on a fielder's choice allowed a second run to score. This tied the game up with three runs apiece.
Reading took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ortiz led off with a walk. He advanced to second on a passed ball and went to third on Corredor's groundout. Guzman's sacrifice bunt allowed Ortiz to cross the plate to put the Fightins ahead for good.
Ethan Lindow got the start and pitched four innings. He gave up one run on six hits while striking out two.
Carlo Reyes relieved Lindow in the fifth. He pitched a scoreless frame and gave up one hit.
Billy Sullivan started the sixth inning but exited earlier than expected after he was hit hard in the hand by a ball.
Francisco Morales took over for Sullivan. He gave up two walks and struck out two.
Mike Adams picked up the win in the contest by pitching a scoreless frame and striking out three.
Matt Seelinger came in for the eighth inning. He gave up one hit and didn't allow a run.
Brian Marconi earned his 12th save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the win.
The Fightins will play at FirstEnergy Stadium next on August 2 at 11:00 AM.
