LAST NIGHT'S GAME - The Sea Dogs scored three runs in the final two innings, but it wasn't enough, as Portland fell short of Somerset 7-3. Somerset scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second inning. Rodolfo Duran hit a one-out double to right field, putting himself in scoring position. Mickey Gasper stepped up to the plate and launched a two-run homer, giving the Patriots a 2-0 lead. The Patriots scored another run in the top of the third on an Elijah Dunham solo homer, making it 3-0. In the top of the fifth Max Burt added a solo shot, pushing the lead to 4-0. Two more runs came around to score in the top of the seventh inning. Jesus Bastidas singled, Austin Wells walked, and Blake Perkins singled to load the bases. Rodolfo Duran knocked in Bastidas with a base hit to right, bringing the score to 5-0. Mickey Gasper hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing in Wells, giving the Patriots a 6-0 lead. Portland plated the final run of the night in the bottom of the ninth. David Hamilton led off with a base hit and stole second. Christian Koss drove him in with a double to center, making it a 7-3 game. That would be all the offense that the Sea Dogs could muster, dropping the fifth game of the series 7-3.

HAMILTON STAYS ON-BASE - David Hamilton has extended his on-base streak to 11 games with a 1-for-4 game on Saturday. Over this span, he has gone 11-for-42 (.262) with two doubles, two homers, four RBI, and six walks compared to eight strikeouts. His on-base percentage during the streak is .380, and it has vaulted him into the lead for stolen bases in the Eastern League. Hamilton has stolen eight bases over the streak, sitting two ahead of Anthony Volpe for the league lead with 37.

IZZY LEADS THE WAY - After earning Eastern League Player of the Week for his performance last series, Izzy Wilson continues to lead the Sea Dogs offense this week. During the first five games of the series against Somerset, Wilson has accumulated a .389 average (7-for-18) with a double, a triple, two home runs, and seven RBI while walking twice and striking out twice. Once on base, he has stolen two bags, was caught once, and scored six times.

RAFAELA MAKES FUTURES GAME APPEARANCE - Ceddanne Rafaela spent last night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, playing in the All-Star Futures Game. Rafaela finished the night 0-for-2 with two strikeouts. Regardless of the outcome, Rafaela has been moving up the Red Sox system swiftly. He started the year in High-A Greenville, where he hit .330 with nine homers over 45 games with the Drive. Up to this point, he has hit .282 with seven homers with the Sea Dogs, paired with spectacular defense in centerfield and shortstop.

SLINGSHOT, ENGAGED - David Hamilton and Anthony Volpe, the top-two base stealers

Eastern League, are playing at Hadlock Field this week. Coming into this week, Volpe led with 35 steals compared to Hamilton's 31. In the three games played in this series, Volpe is 0-for-1 on steal attempts. Over Hamilton's five games played, he is 6-for-6 in steal attempts, including a three-steal game on Friday. Hamilton now sits alone with the lead in steals with 37, two ahead of Volpe who has 35.

THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY - July 17, 2012- Jackie Bradley Jr. led off the bottom of the first inning with his first Double-A homer in Portland's 7-0 win over Reading.

PITCHING MATCHUP - Yusniel Padron-Artiles will make his first Double-A start of his career against the Somerset Patriots today. Padron-Artiles was added to Portland's roster on Friday, coming up from the High-A Greenville Drive. There, he tossed 68.2 innings to the tune of a 6.29 ERA and a 3-8 record. His most notable month in Greenville was June, where he hurled 19.0 innings, allowing six earned runs, struck out 21, and walked 11, finishing the month with a 2.84 ERA.
