Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves built a 6-2 lead through six and a half innings on Friday night at Commerce Bank Park but the bullpen yielded five late runs en route to a 9-6 loss to the Harrisburg Senators.

The SeaWolves took a lead in the top of the second inning against Harrisburg starter Adrian Alaniz. With two outs, Caonabo Cosme lined a home run over the wall in left to give the ‘Wolves a 1-0 lead. Casper Wells followed and slammed a solo home run, once again to left, to put Erie ahead 2-0.

The Senators would get on the board, tying the game in the bottom of the third against Erie starter Ben Fritz. With one out, Seth Bynum connected on his first home run of the season. Later in the inning with two outs, Marco Yepez doubled to left and he scored on a Garrett Guzman single to right, making it a 2-2 game.

The ‘Wolves would regain the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Dusty Ryan led off with a single but was put out at second on a failed sacrifice bunt attempt by Kody Kirkland. Cosme followed with a walk to put a pair on for Wells. Wells popped out to first for the second out bringing Will Rhymes to the dish. Rhymes went opposite field as he lined a double down the left field line, bringing home Kirkland, giving Erie a 3-2 lead. Danny Work followed, worked the count full, and belted Erie's third home run of the game. The three-run bomb was the fifth of the season for Worth and it gave Erie a 6-2 advantage.

Harrisburg cut into the Erie lead in the bottom of the seventh. Bynum led off with his second hit of the game, a double off the wall in right center. Bynum moved over to third on a ground out by Mike Daniel and he scored on a Yepez groundout to make it 6-3 in favor of Erie.

The Senators took advantage of Erie's bullpen in the bottom of the eighth to take their first lead of the game. Fritz came out to start the inning but yielded a leadoff single to Luke Montz and would be lifted to reliever Danny Zell. Zell walked Luis Jimenez and gave up a single to Ofilio Castro to load the bases with no outs. The ‘Wolves made their second call to the pen, brining in Marcelo Perez. Andrew LeFave hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Montz, making it a 6-4 game. William Bergolla then reached on an error and Jimenez scored to make it 6-5. Perez then served up a three-run home run to Bynum to give Harrisburg an 8-6 lead. Harrisburg would go on to add one more run for a 9-6 lead.

Adam Carr worked a perfect ninth to pick up his first save.

Perez (1-1) took the loss for the ‘Wolves going 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits with no walks and one strikeout.
