Baysox offensive falls short in loss

(Altoona, PA) - Lou Montanez homered and Brad Bergesen only allowed one earned run, but the Curve scored an unearned run to beat the Baysox 2-1. With the loss, Bergesen falls to 7-2 with a pair of losses against the Curve. The Baysox now trail Akron by 3.0 games in the Southern Division.

The Baysox got on the board in the top of the first inning when Lou Montanez hit a two-out solo homerun to right. It was the only run the Baysox would score in the game. The Baysox struggled to put runners on base all game. Bowie did not draw a walk in the game, and only managed to put more than one runner on base once in the game.

Altoona tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first. Shelby Ford hit a one-out double to left. Jonel Pacheco followed with an infield single to shortstop Blake Davis and Davis threw wildly to first base, allowing Ford to score from second base.

The Curve would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Jonel Pacheco reached on a fielders choice and scored on a double by Jason Delaney. Curve starter Luis Munoz went seven strong innings in his first AA start this season, allowing one run on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Josh Shortslef pitched two shutout innings to earn his second save of the season.

Adam Loewen made his second appearance for the Baysox, throwing a scoreless inning. Gerrardo Casadiego also threw a scoreless inning of relief.

The Baysox will look for their first win against the Curve this season when the teams meet for the fifth time Saturday at 7:05 p.m. RHP David Hernandez (5-1, 3.07 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for the Baysox, he will go up against RHP Derek Hankins (1-3, 4.02 ERA).
