Aerodynamics...

Keep Rollin', Rollin, Rollin'...The good times of the past two weeks show no signs of abating for the Aeros, as Akron rode a strong pitching performance from newcomer Steven Wright en route to a 5-3 triumph in Bowie last night, capping a three-game sweep and increasing Akron's lead in the Southern Division to two games over the Baysox. The Aeros got huge contributions from their starting outfield last night, as LF Trevor Crowe, CF Jose Constanza and RF Bronson Sardinha went a combined 8-14 with two doubles, a triple, three runs scored and three RBI. Wright worked into the sixth in his Eastern League debut, limiting Bowie to just a run on four hits in 5.2 innings. The win was the 13th in 14 games for the Aeros, and at 15 games over .500 this is Akron's high-water mark for the season thus far. The Aeros were also able to repay the Sox for getting swept at Prince George's Stadium May 2nd-4th; it was Akron's fourth series sweep of the year.

Catching On...C Damaso Espino also played a key role in last night's win, reaching base three times on the strength of two hits and a walk while also scoring a run and driving in a run. He saved his biggest contribution for the top of the eighth inning, driving a two-out RBI double to left-center to score Ryan Goleski and spark a three-run rally that would prove huge when the Baysox struck for two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Espino, who was acquired from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for cash considerations June 11th, is hitting .375 (3-8) with three RBI in his first two games with Akron, and the Aeros have won both games in which the converted corner infielder has started at catcher.

Fun With Rosters...The Aeros made a pair of roster moves prior to last night's affair, placing OF Nathan Panther on the disabled list to make room for RHP Steven Wright, and also swapping catchers as Chris Gimenez went up to Class AAA Buffalo and Wyatt Toregas came down from the Bisons. Panther, the veteran who was invaluable in the first month of the year while Trevor Crowe was on the shelf with a strained back, was hitting .260 with two homers and 18 RBI in 44 games this year. He had also drawn 20 walks against just 23 strikeouts. Losing Gimenez creates a pretty sizeable hole in the Aeros lineup, as the native of Gilroy, CA was fourth in the league with a .339 batting average while topping the circuit with a .487 on-base percentage (helped by a league-leading 52 walks). He was also tied for second on the club with six home runs and tied for third with 26 RBI. Toregas spent all of last year with Akron but struggled with injuries, appearing in just 86 games and hitting .250 with six homers and 39 RBI. He was batting .219 with two homers and 25 RBI in 50 games for Buffalo.
